When I got really sad, I started wearing colours. I’d hidden myself in blacks and greys and nothings for a little while, not keen to draw attention to myself. But during this time and drawing on my learnings about how colour affected my mood, I decided to change the way I dressed.
I didn’t go from black to fluro overnight. That was a step too big for me to take. So I started with my underwear! I stockpiled pairs upon pairs of fluorescent underpants figuring that at least on the inside, or underneath, I would feel brightened by colours. Then I discovered Happy Socks!
This is my first pair. Under my boots, my feet were dancing even when I felt awful. After a while, the colours started to make me happy again. And I wore more of them each week. Some days now I still dress in black. Usually because I like it or it makes me look slim (come on, who doesn’t love black’s slimming feature?). And I take a moment to enjoy the colours around me. And how happy they can make me feel.
